The Indian Media’s outlook on Cricket

India and Pakistan had a cracker of a match last night. I watched it till the end, and although I’m disappointed that India lost, it was a great game nonetheless!
I appreciated the tenacity displayed by Mohammed Yousuf and Shoaib Malik in taking the Pakistani score from 3/65 in 14.4 overs to a massive score of 302.
I really enjoyed the fight that Gautam Gambhir and Suresh Raina exhibited which gave India lots of hope and belief that they could pull off an awesome win!
But, after all was said and done, I think that Pakistan were the deserving winners of that match. Their spinners out-bowled India. Their batsmen batted a lot more responsibly. In the final equation, they were a better team on the day. So why is the media crying and creating such a fuss about Dhoni not bowling Tendulkar??

So Sachin can't bowl. Big deal! What happened to the specialists?
This is such an obtuse thought, that it really doesn’t even deserve being mentioned! Who in their sane minds would ask Tendulkar to bowl when Harbhajan Singh (your frontline bowler) is being hammered and Yusuf Pathan is getting the treatment?
Tendulkar has always had an uncanny ability of picking up wickets, but you also have to keep in mind that he also leaks a lot of runs anyway. Ever since he’s had the Tennis Elbow injury, he’s been reluctant to bowl. That is completely understandable. If you want a batsman of Tendulkar’s calibre to keep playing for you, then at his age, you shouldn’t really expect him to do much more than what he’s supposed to, and he’s doing what he’s supposed to really well!
Hindsight is a curse. After all is said and done, every person can keep claiming that the captain (Dhoni) should’ve done something one way or the other. One thing everyone needs to realize is that a captain knows exactly what resources he has at his disposal. If Dhoni felt/knew that Tendulkar wasn’t a bowling resource, he was justified in not turning to him.
Among the many things happen in sport, once something’s done, it’s done. All you can do is learn from your mistake, move on and never commit that mistake again!
What the Indian media needs to understand is that it’s a sport, a game, not a war in which every battle lost is significant ground lost to the enemy! Let’s bring some maturity into our actions, thoughts and the outlook towards sports. Let’s just grow up!
